Time to Reset

What is your reset? How do you take the daily grind of stress and concern and forget about them? Maybe saying forget about it is not the best wording. Most of these things we can’t just forget about. How do you process or work through all the worries in your life? In today’s business, the answers to these questions are ever more important.   If you were to stop what you are doing now, could you answer it? There are days during my week when I say I have no idea how to manage or shrug my shoulders.

I was at church this weekend, and it is the start of a new series, Society Anxiety. Church is not something I often write about, but I found myself lured back to the questions I asked above. In today’s world of social anxiety, pressures from work, finances, family schedules, and so much more, how do you reset?

I am not a big springtime hunter. Ticks are not my thing, and in Montana, they are abundant. This past week I considered that and decided to adventure out to look for turkeys. I only had the morning, so traveling too far wouldn’t work. Fortunately, there’s a small piece of State Land on the edge of town. I parked and was getting out of my truck before the sun had crept up on the horizon. My vehicle was the only one there. This was a bonus because it wasn’t a big piece of property I was on, and now I had it all to myself. As I walked into the coulee, the stillness was deafening. I could hear everything. Birds, crickets, grass rustling, and the breeze blowing through the leaves. It was all so perfectly present. As the sun made its first flash on the horizon, I knew being in the outdoors was my reset. I wasn’t thinking about work or bills I needed to pay. I wasn’t concerned about my hectic schedule next week. That was all gone. I was present in the moment. I knew I needed to be there and be in it.

There are times during the year when I can tell I haven’t been out exploring in a while. I start feeling bogged down, losing motivation, and losing focus on what is important to me. It’s so important to know how you reset and be intentional about finding the time to make that happen. At that moment, out chasing turkeys, I knew I needed more of this. I had to reconnect with my reset.
